Most weekends, visitors and rail enthusiasts descend on the ‘Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway’ at either Toddington, Winchcombe or Cheltenham Race course for a ride on either a steam or diesel train.

The present mainline formerly of GWR ( Great Western Railway) runs from the main station and depot at Toddington, a small Cotswold village near Winchcombe to Cheltenham Race Course. The mainline commands wonderful views of the sleepy hamlets and villages, as it runs though the beautiful Cotswold countryside.

After the mainliner’s final closure to both passenger and goods traffic in 1976 which served Birmingham to Cheltenham, via Stratford-upon-Avon and the touristy town of Broadway, the line was taken over by an all-volunteer group.

The ‘Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway’ aim is to open the rest of the line to Stratford-upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare.
